Patch Prep Football West Metro Roundup: Crimson, Wayzata Week One Winners

Each week we'll take a quick trip around the West Metro from a football roundup. Here's a look at the games from Thursday night in Week One.

There were some tight-knit games and a couple of blowouts in Week One of the Minnesota High School League football season, but no huge upsets to rock the prep sports world in Thursday night's heat.

Maple Grove, Wayzata and Osseo were all big winners in the new Class 6A, with St. Michael-Albertville falling to Cambridge-Isanti in a mild upset over the Mississippi 8.

Here's a look around the West Metro.

Tanner Bedard carried the ball for two touchdowns, and Reid Pettersen had two more from his QB spot, as Wayzata led 35-0 at the half and never looked back.

Cambridge-Isanti 8, St. Michael-Albertville 0

Neither defense allowed a touchown, but Cambridge's famous "Wing T" attack was big enough to push the Knights, picked by some to win the Mississippi 8, around and set up two 30-yard field goals.

St. Michael-Albertville's offense never got on track, and was held to 107 yards.

Edina 24, Andover 23

The Hornets hung on after a big fourth quarter touchdown pass from Mark Handberg to Nick Boone.

Handberg accounted for all three Hornet touchdowns, as Edina moved to 2-0 after a .

Osseo 31, Centennial 27

The Orange racked up a 25-7 lead, started by Bridge Tusler's 49-yard scoring run, and then held on for the win. Troy Kray had a huge kick return to set up another score.

Benilde St. Margaret's 49, Robbinsdale Cooper 42

What a night for the Red Knights' Keaton Studsrud. He ran from 174 yards and two scores and also had 104 yards through the air.

Cooper's aerial assault was led by Briceon Scott Burch, who had 250 yards passing and two touchdowns.

Maple Grove 54, Robbinsdale Armstrong 28

This game was no contest, as Maple Grove's depth showed up and led the Crimson to a 41-7 lead at the half. The bench was depleted by the fourth quarter, when Armstrong piled up some late scores.

Hokpins 45, Bloomington Kennedy 33

The Royals continue to look impressive, moving to 2-0 after a win in Zero Week over a squad from Houston, Texas.

Minnetonka 27, Shakopee 3

The Skippers' defense was too much for Shakopee. After scoring a field goal to keep things interesting in the first half, Minnetonka held the Sabers scoreless the rest of the way.

In other scores:

Litchfield 30, Orono 28

New London-Spicer 41, Mound Westonka 7

Totino Grace 48, Coon Rapids 6

Minneapolis Southwest 45, Minneapolis North 2
