Orono Spartans Swim To Second In Simley Invitational

Orono's 800-yard freestyle relay team, Thompson, Maki, Schultz and Norton all swim to titles in the seven-team Simley Invitational swimming and diving meet Saturday.

Orono saved the best for last as the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Emei Thompson, MacKenzie Maki, Sidney Fairbrother, Sam Norton won in 8:28.09 to highlight a second-place finish in the Simley Swimming and Diving Invitational Saturday in Inver Grove Heights.

Hudson won the meet with 602 points, followed by Orono (532), River Falls (473), Simley (403), Chippewa Falls (396), Chisago Lakes (390) and St. Paul Central (358).

Thompson, a sophomore, won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:24.58, Senior Maki finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (59.00), Casey Schultz was first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.02) and Norton won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.83).

Orono’s Amanda Eberle, Thompson, Norton and Fairbrother won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:45.86.

Fairbrother was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.29, Norton was second in the 400-yard IM (4:54.32), Eberle was second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.11) and Schultz was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.92).

Orono’s 200-yard medley relay team of Hannah Lyerk, Schultz, Erin Schroeter and EmilyJohn Connors was second in 2:07.81. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Connors, Alison Tallen, Eberle and Maddie Kileen was second in 4:07.93.

The Spartans swim Thursday at Waconia at 6 p.m.
