Orono Alpine Skiers Amp it up at State; Boys Make Final Podium

Lucy Kearney had an impressive 30th finish, moving up 39 spots from her 69th starting postition.

Orono's Alpine ski team finished the 2012-13 season strong, competing in the Minnesota State High School Alpine Championships at Giant’s Ridge last Wednesday, Feb. 13.

This was Orono’s fourth-consecutive year sending athletes to State and their highest team finish to date. The boy's team finished 3rd out of eight competing schools, and eighth-grader Rosie Hust finished 3rd overall for the girls—out of 88 athletes.

“Skiing for the team is really important,” said captain and senior Woody Hust. “Skiing is normally an individual sport, and what we do in high school is really cool because we have the ability to make it a team sport. Normally you’re competing against everybody else, but here you have to come together as a team and make sure everybody does their job.”
