Opening Ceremonies: Boulders Hit The Field For First Home Game

Rockland welcomes new Can-Am League team to its home at Provident Bank Park in Pomona.

With honor guards and a giant American flag, Rockland County welcomed its new Can-Am League baseball team to Provident Bank Park in Pomona tonight.

Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence and former Yankees catcher John Flaherty, a Rockland County resident, threw out the ceremonial "first pitch" to kick off the first Boulders home game.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Boulders lead the visiting Brockton Rox, 2-0. So far, the Rox have been held to one hit and one walk. The Rox have committed one error. The Boulders have had six and had two runners caught stealing at second.

Rockland Boulders team president Ken Lehner described the new stadium as "America's best new ball park."

"It's going to be a destination for generations to come," he told the crowd during the opening ceremonies.

Sold Out? SRO only? I suppose the helicopers flying over my nearby home were looking for lost fans who couldn't find Boulder Stadium. What a Boondoggle!

I think that stadium is totally out of place in a residential area. I don't know how the residents of Pomona allowed that to happen at at the expense of taxpayers.
