Mound Westonka Swim and Dive Team Continues Undefeated Season

The Mound Westonka-Holy Family swim and dive team is 7-0 in dual meets and has won a pair of invitationals. The girls are currently ranked first in the conference.

The Mound Westonka-Holy Family swim and dive team's winning streak continued last week. The MWHF team won the 1st place trophy at the annual Watertown-Mayer-Delano Invitational on Sept. 22, beating six other teams with a final score of 334.50. Class AA Buffalo was 2nd at 303.50, and Orono was 3rd at 235.50.

In a dual meet against Orono on Sept. 20, the White Hawks continued to roll with a 116-67 victory.

The varsity 200-yard medley relay team of senior Mackenzie Braden, sophomore Hannah Daly and freshmen Shea Braden and Brie LaVelle won the event with a time of 1:59.03. The medley relay team of juniors Rose Inglis, Sari Mailey, captain Maggie Green and eighth-grader Ryann Beyer finished in 3rd.

Mackenzie Braden and senior captains Grace Polusny and Paige Beyer swept the 200-yard freestyle event. Junior varsity swimmers eighth-grader Kate Rogers, senior captain Libby New and seventh-grader Skylar Cordie also had 1-2-3 finishes in the 200-free.  

Green and Inglis finished the varsity 200-yard individual medley in 2nd and 3rd place. Eighth-grader Rhiannon Mailey was 1st in the junior varsity 200-yard individual medley, and freshman Emily Staunton was 3rd.

In the 50-yard free, Simon (26.32) and LaVelle (26.93) took the top two spots, with sophomore Lauren Crawford finishing the junior varsity 50-yard free in 1st.

Senior divers Kayla Lindeman and Marilee Saatzer also continued a strong season. Lindeman finished in 1st with a score of 194.05, and Saatzer was 3rd at 133.40.  

The 100-yard butterfly was another White Hawks sweep, with Shea Braden (1:04.74), Green, and junior Erin Haug in the 1-2-3 positions. Simon (58.44) and Daly (59.79) took 2nd and 3rd place in the 50-yard free. Mackenzie Braden took 1st in the 500-yard free (5:23.50); Polusny was 3rd, and Sari Mailey was 4th.

Rhiannon Mailey won the junior varsity 500-yard free; Rogers and New were 2nd and 3rd.  

The White Hawks varsity 200-yard free relay teams finished in 2nd (Paige Beyer, LaVelle, Simon and Daly) and 3rd (Ryann Beyer, Inglis, Polusny and New). The junior varsity 200-yard relay teams finished in 1st (Rogers, Cordie, Chloe Gruman and Stephanie Begalke) and 2nd place (Alex Mason, Lauren Miller, Maddie Roehrig and Liza Pierce).  

Shea Braden won the varsity 100-yard backstroke (1:05.38); Lauren Crawford won the junior varsity 100-yard back.  

In the 100-yard breaststroke, LaVelle finished first (1:14.34), and Sari Mailey finished in 3rd. Alex Mason won the junior varsity event.  

In the final event, the White Hawks 400-yard freestyle relay teams finished 1st (Mackenzie Braden, Paige Beyer, Polusny and Simon; 3:54.26) and 2nd (Green, Shea Braden, Ryann Beyer and Sari Mailey).

Mound Westonka and Holy family compete as a unified cooperative White Hawks team at the Wright County Conference level. Their 7-0 dual meet record and two 1st place invitational finishes have them ranked first in the conference.  

They'll split and compete as separate teams at the section level due to Minnesota State High School League school population rules. Until then, the team is ranked 1st in Section 3A and 5th in the state.
