Get Patched In: How Has Your Favorite H.S. Team Done Lately?

Patch takes a spin around Lake Minnetonka for a look at how local high school sports teams have fared in recent action.

The Orono cross-country teams joined over 80 squads at the Milaca Mega Meet last Saturday, competing in the AAA Division at the large annual competition in north central Minnesota.

Orono Cross Country

Led by Paul Brauchle's seventh-place individual finish, the Orono boys cross-country team finished third at the Mega Meet, with Brady Koeting (17:21.2) in 17th, Mike Choiniere (17:35.7) in 17th, Ben Hacker (17:46.0) in 27th and Keith Ketola (18:06.8) in 44th.

The Spartans girls took 19th, led by Chelsea Fleitman (16:46.1) in 45th and Samantha White (16:47.4) in 47th.

Orono Volleyball

The Orono volleyball team lost in three games to St. Louis Park on Monday and in four games to Waconia on Tuesday to fall to 7-7 on the season.

Mariah Scharf leads the Spartans with 120 kills, 91 digs and 71 service aces, with Bailey Amstrup topping the club with 148 assists.

Orono Boys Soccer

Goals from Willi Semsch and Alec Preuter spurred the Orono boys soccer team to a 2-0 defeat of Waconia on Tuesday as goalkeeper Sean Boyle made six saves for the shutout.

The victory, combined with a 1-1 tie against Mound-Westonka on Monday gave the Spartans a 6-4-2 record with four games remaining in the regular season.

Orono Girls Soccer

Class A's sixth-ranked Orono girls soccer team topped Breck, 4-1, on Saturday and Waconia, 7-1, on Tuesday to improve to 9-3-1 on the year. 

Sophie Babo's 20 goals lead the Spartans, followed by Nikki Smith's nine goals and Hanna Deters' six goals.

Orono Girls Tennis

The Orono girls tennis team defeated Benilde-St. Margaret's, 4-3, on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Wayzata Girls Soccer

A 2-0 loss to ninth-ranked Eden Prairie last Thursday dropped the Wayzata girls soccer team from No. 1 to No. 4 in the Class AA rankings, with the Trojans losing again, 2-0, to Minnetonka on Tuesday after defeating Buffalo by a 4-0 on Saturday.

Kylie Schwartz's six goals lead the 11-2-1 Trojans, with Maddie Eklin and Summer Johnson posting five goals apiece.

Wayzata Boys Soccer

The Wayzata boys soccer team won its fifth-straight game, 6-0 at Minnetonka on Tuesday, to improve to 8-4-1 on the season.

The Trojans upset No. 3 Eden Prairie, 3-1, last Thursday and topped White Bear Lake, 6-1, on Saturday. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Wayzata Volleyball

A five-game victory over Minnetonka improved the No. 7 Wayzata volleyball team to 12-6 on the year. 

Individual statistics were not made available. The Trojans went 2-2 in the Apple Valley Tournament on Saturday, finishing fourth.

Wayzata Girls Tennis

The Wayzata girls tennis team improved to 14-1 in dual matches with a 6-1 defeat of Mounds Park Academy and 7-0 win over Cretin-Derham Hall. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Wayzata Girls Swimming and Diving

The Wayzata girls swimming and diving team finished first at the Maple Grove Invitational on Saturday, then bested Eden Prairie by a 102-84 score on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Mound Westonka Volleyball

A three-game match loss to Hutchinsonon Tuesday dropped the Mound Westonka volleyball team to 12-5-1 this autumn.

Breanna Mack leads the White Hawks with 196 kills and 149 digs, with Callie Mack's 331 assists topping the team.

Mound Westonka Girls Soccer

The Mound Westonka girls soccer team topped Hutchinson, 3-0, on Tuesday to improve to 4-5-2 this year. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Mound Westonka Boys Soccer

The Mound Westonka boys soccer team tied Orono, 1-1, on Monday after losing 3-0 to Maple Grove on Saturday to bring its record to 8-2-2 overall. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Orono Football

A 21-9 loss at Dassel-Cokato on Friday dropped the Orono football team to 1-3 on the season heading into a matchup at Hutchinson—ranked eighth in Class AAAA—this week. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Wayzata Football

Playing at the University of Dubuque in Iowa, the Wayzata football team—ranked second in Class AAAAA—outlasted the Carmel Catholic Corsairs from Illinois, 33-27, last Friday.

Nick Martin threw for three touchdowns, two to Ethan Zeidler, in the win, with Erik Roti and Jeff Borchardt adding one score each. Kyle Kalivoda intercepted two passes for the Trojans defense.

Wayzata improved to 4-0 on the season, with a home game against No. 5 Minnetonka this Friday.

Mound Westonka Football

The Mound Westonka football team fell to 0-4 with a 50-14 home loss to Litchfield last Friday. Individual statistics were not made available.
