Playmakers

  • Antonio Ford, Wayzata (Running Back): Ford is the workhorse that runs the Trojan rushing game. He is called on to get tough yards and keep the chains moving, but he also has the ability to break the big play. He has gained 732 yards on the ground during the regular season, averaging over five yards per carry. Look for the Trojans to continue their dominant running game by handing him the ball.
  • Michael Sales, Champlin Park (Running Back): Sales is the Rebels’ biggest threat when carrying the football. He gained 129 yards on 24 carries during their first-round blowout of Robbinsdale Cooper.

The Trojans win if…

They can do what they’ve done all year long. In every game they have managed to establish the running game and take advantage of passing opportunities when they were available. Also, if the defense plays like they did against Eden Prairie, they will win this game.

The Rebels win if…

They play mistake-free football and keep good field position. Wayzata is great at playing the field-position game. They find ways—through great special teams play—to pin opponents deep in their own territory. The Rebels must play well on special teams to make sure they aren’t going 95 yards on offense or giving the Trojan offense a short field.

Key Injuries

• Mitch Underhill, Wayzata Running back: Underhill tweaked his knee in the opening game against Prior Lake. An MRI revealed a torn ACL. He will be out for the remainder of the season.
