Details on Gear Western Country Half Marathon and Borton Volvo 5k.

Crisp fall temperatures and colorful rural roads will greet hundreds of runners participating in the Gear Western Country Half Marathon and Borton Volvo 5k runs. 

After the race, runners and spectators will enjoy eating and dancing at the best post-race party west of the Mississippi. Country rock music, Hot Dogs, beverages (at the Red Rooster next to the store) and other tasty treats round out the party. On race day, Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners will be accepting donations for their ReSale 101 store and Gear West Ski and Run will match those donations with new clothing. October 12th  rounds out to a pretty full day: run, eat, party and civic involvement.

Gear Western Country Half Marathon

Back for it's second year, the Gear Western Country Half Marathon is building on the success of 2012. Registrations are up and so is the excitement. The course follows beautiful, rolling, shady rural roads and the more flat Luce Line trail. Cool weather and the changing leaves make October 12th the perfect day for a run in the country.  Half-marathons have seen a nearly fourfold increase of participation over the last ten years. The growth makes sense. The Gear Western and other half-marathons offer the satisfaction of finishing a big race for those who don't have time to train for a full Marathon. Half-marathons are a nice stepping stone for runners working up to a full marathon or for race experienced marathoners to keep in shape.

Borton Volvo 5k

The Borton Volvo 5k is designed for those not quite ready for a long run but want the fun of a shorter jog/run/walk with family and friends. This shorter race will also be great for those wishing to stretch their legs after running last week's TC marathon. It’s no wonder 5k is the most popular distance for races. It does not require a large training commitment, it offers good speed workout for experienced runners and it does not take too long to walk it briskly.

Like the Gear Western Country Half Marathon, the Borton Volvo 5k course leads you thru the fall colors on shady country roads. It’s a real family affair, participates will run or walk with family and friends and some runners will even bring their dogs.

Our Charity and Yours! ReSale 101 - You Donate and Gear West matches!

Gear Western Country Half is helping Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners (IOCP) increase collections for their ReSale 101 store. Drop off gently used pants, jackets, shoes... most anything worth anything... at packet pick-up (Friday) or on race day and Gear West will match all donations with new clothing from their stores.  ReSale 101 provides a place where the community can shop, donate, and volunteer. ReSale 101 has goals of engaging the community in the work of IOCP through volunteerism and donations, selling quality donated clothing and household items to raise funds to support IOCP programs and providing quality clothing and household items for IOCP's clients

Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners responds to emergency needs, moves families toward stability and positive change, and engages volunteers and partners in service, leadership, and capacity building.
