White Hawks Logo Gets Extreme Makeover

A Sharper, Updated Look for Westonka's Student Programs

Westonka spirit is getting a face lift.

The Westonka School District unveiled an updated White Hawks sports logo this week. The new logo replaces the old White Hawks logo that has been in use since the late 1990s. The White Hawks logo—not to be confused with the Westonka district logo—is used exclusively by the high school and middle school athletic teams, official school district clubs and activities and to identify and promote district sports events and activities.

The reasons for the update were threefold, according to the district: it was time to refresh the White Hawks image and bring it up to date; creating a consistent brand image for all district sports and activities helps reinforce the Westonka brand; and providing a well-designed logo that can be used in a variety of applications ensures a quality, unified look for uniforms, apparel and signage.

"The emphasis on a unified look for the White Hawks sports logo—given the wide range of variations we have seen in recent years—is very important to furthering the strong, respected identity this district has earned," Mound Westonka High School Principal Keith Randklev said.

Mound Westonka Activities Director Dion Koltes added faculty and staff are continuously striving for a unified look.

“We want our uniforms, team apparel, and spirit wear to be in tune with the times, it only makes sense that our sports logo is too,” Koltes said.

Updated Look, Same School Spirit, Same School Colors

The updated White Hawks logo comes in two iterations: a Westonka White Hawks version for general sports and activities use and a Mound Westonka version for high school specific activities.

The color scheme remains the same red and white school colors with grey and black used as complementary accents. The logo is designed to work best on red, black, gray or white uniforms, products and apparel items. The logo was specifically designed to work well—and to look strong and bold—in embroidery and screen printing applications as well as traditional print and web materials.

"The bold new look of the White Hawk exemplifies the renewed energy and school spirit that has come from both the student body and Mound Westonka community in recent years," Connor Hanson, student body president, boys hockey and lacrosse athlete, said.

The updated logo is available immediately for all team and spirit wear and is for use whenever the White Hawks branding is appropriate. Existing uniforms and signage will remain until it is time for them to be replaced or updated. Then the new logo will replace the old version.

All of the various file formats—JPG, EPS, TIFF, PDF and PNG— along with color specs and guidelines for usage, are available through Dion Koltes, MWHS athletic director’s office. Suppliers can contact Mr. Koltes or Mary Pat McNeil, marketing and communications director for the district, with specific questions.

"With a consistent look, all Westonka sports teams and clubs will help create a common brand image. And that strong unified image helps to reinforce community pride," says Ms. McNeil who is heading up the redesign project. “Look for fun, new apparel designs coming soon from all our vendors. And get out and show your school spirit!”
