What Westonka Superintendent Wants You to Know as Kids Prep for Start of School

As a small school district, we really do know every child by name and strive to help every child succeed.

Welcome back Westonka.

What a year we have in store for you and your child. We feel privileged to have you and your family as part of our school district.

As superintendent I feel tremendously proud to be part of this caring, high-achieving community.

Best Place to Raise Your Kids, A Blue Ribbon Nominee, Best High School, Best High School Teacher...

This November, Business Week voted our hometown of Mound the Best Place to Raise Kids in Minnesota. In April, Hilltop was nominated for the NCLB Blue Ribbon award. In May, Westonka received recognition as one of the best high schools in the country from U.S. News & World Report. This June, our own Corey Bulman received the Best High School Teacher of the year award from Lake Minnetonka magazine beating out 145 nominees and the other two fi nalists from Minnetonka and Orono. We certainly have a lot to be proud of in our students and our staff. I look forward to even more great success stories from this coming school year.

Westonka students’ state test scores were once again among the best—for nine consecutive years of top-ranking scores.

In 2011, Westonka ranked No. 4 in Math and No. 5 in reading in the state overall on all 17 MCA-II tests given. That’s quite a real-life success story we’ve got going for this small school district.

Small school advantages. Big school opportunities. Real-life success stories.

As a small school district, we really do know every child by name and strive to help every child succeed. Like the big schools, we offer a broad selection of choices and options for students from athletics to extracurricular selections. The difference is Westonka students don’t get stuck on the sidelines. Everyone gets a chance to play. And Westonka graduates are accepted at the top private and public colleges and universities in the nation and make names for themselves in their respective fields.

The Westonka Edge: Good Things Happen in our Schools

Westonka continues to deliver great returns on your investment. Caring teachers, dedicated administrators and support staff and involved parents all contribute to give Westonka students the edge they need to succeed. But we don’t do it alone. Vital support from the state, from you—our local taxpayers, community and corporate foundations, and individual citizens who generously give above and beyond of their time, talent, and fi nances helps make good things happen in our schools.
