Team Mat Rats Dominate Charity Dodgeball Tourney

Mound Westonka H.S. Student Senate Raises Funds and Collects Food.

By Lorrie Ham

The Mound Westonka High School Student Senate hosted a successful charity dodgeball tournament during the recent SnoDaze Week. A total of 22 teams participated in the tournament, with "Team Mat Rats" winning the championship match during the SnoDaze Pepfest on Feb. 1.

Billed as “far more than a simple competition, but an opportunity for everyone to give back to the community,” the MWHS Student Senate raised $2,000 in entry fees and ticket sales which will be donated to the Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack. The students also collected dozens of non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Westonka Food Shelf.

“Once again, our Student Senate pulled off an incredible community-building event when they sponsored the dodge ball tournament,” Assistant Principal Marty Fischer said. “The competition was great, the good sportsmanship was clearly evident, and the team outfits were creative! It was great to be able to see the championship match during the SnoDaze Pepfest on Friday.”
