The Orono High School Speech Team has earned significant national recognition from the National Forensic League.
The team received at least 100 degrees last school year, placing it in the top 10 percent of NFL chapters nationwide and securing it membership in the league's prestigious 100 Club. The NFL has 120,000 members nationwide.
A degree indicates the competitive success of students and coaches. Orono High School's team members earned enough tournament points to advance members several degrees.
The National Forensic League is the nation’s oldest and largest forensic honor society, and is widely regarded as the highest standard of excellence in secondary school speech and debate.
The advisor of the speech team is Julie McMerty, OHS English teacher.
