Mound Westonka High School’s homecoming is in full swing, and everyone in town is feeling the spirit. To kick off the week the annual Homecoming Coronation took place Sept. 23 in the MWHS gym.

Joining homecoming king Sander Lee and queen Kerrianne Simmons on the Royal Court are Paige Beyer, Callie Mack, Alicia Martin-Vega, Katey Nelson, Molly Wollner, Nate Baskfield, Tyler Hebig, Grant Nagel, Jesse Orenge and Corbin Roberts.

This year’s junior attendants are from Shirley Hills: first-graders Kendra Mattson and Charlie Lund.

Homecoming week continues with dress-up days and other activities throughout the week. After the powder puff game on Wednesday, Sept. 26, Student Senate hosted a community bonfire from 8 to 10 p.m. just outside the gates of Haddorff Field.

On Thursday, the girls’ soccer team will play at Haddorff at 5 p.m., as will the boys at 7 p.m. Also, the girls swim and cive team will start their home meet at 6 p.m. Finally, Friday Sept. 28 is White Hawks Spirt Day.

Friday festivities will start with the high school pep fest, beginning at 2:15 in the gym. Prior to the big game, there will be the annual Homecoming Parade. The parade will start at 5 p.m. at Hilltop and end at the Mound Westonka High School parking lot.

As a fundraiser, the Student Senate will be driving a junk car through the parade and will be charging $1 for taking a whack at this “piece of junk” after the parade. Along with the junk car, there will also be activities for the whole family to enjoy in front of Haddorff, such as bouncy houses and face painting.

This will be a fun way to get everyone pumped up for the big game at 7 p.m. Friday night. We will be taking on Waconia, and we expect to see the stands full!

Finally, on Saturday, we will host the semi-formal Homecoming Dance from 8 -11 p.m. in the Mound Westonka High School Cafeteria. This is for students in grades 10-12. Tickets are available in advance and at the door for $10.00 per person.

Student Senate encourages all students and families to attend as many of the activities as you can!
