Meet the Teacher: Annette Kilpela

Annette Kilpela is a newly-licensed teacher who recently relocated from Michigan.

In April 2011, Annette Kilpela received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Northern Michigan University with a minor in integrated science/language arts.

She recently moved to Minnesota from Michigan.

“My mom actually grew up here,” said Kilpela. “She grew up in Wayzata, and my grandparents live in Cokato.”

Kilpela is teaching third grade at Orono Intermediate School this year.

Kilpela was a student teacher in second grade at Lakeview Elementary in Michigan from January through April 2011. She was also a long-term substitute for a month at the end of the school year. During that time, Kilpela developed and implemented lessons in math, science, language arts and social studies.

She previously worked as a teaching assistant at Sylvan Learning Center and was an early childhood caregiver for four years.

According to Kilpela, her skills include organization, patience, technology integration and the ability to multitask. She believes it is her responsibility to find a way for each child to succeed in her classroom. She is very excited about being a teacher.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do my entire life,” said Kilpela.

In her spare time, she enjoys doing outdoor activities, scrapbooking, crafts and reading.
