Some Facts and Figures About the Mound Westonka School District

Nearly 2,300 students are enrolled in the Westonka School District this year.

Westonka Public School District 277 serves students living in all or part of the municipalities of Mound, Spring park, Minnetrista, Shorewood, Orono, Independence, Navarre and Lyndale.

More than 300 staff members are employed by the Westonka School District, and 10 new teachers joined the staff this year. Nearly 2,300 students attend the four schools in the Westonka School District.

Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools serve students in pre-Kindergarten to fourth grade. Grandview Middle School includes fifth through seventh grade students, and Mound Westonka High School serves students in grades 8-12.

In addition, the Westonka School District’s outdoor environmental learning center (ELC) is at located on nearby Dutch Lake. The 19-acre area has a lake, forest, marshland and a learning center.

The character education program in the Westonka School District focuses on respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring and citizenship.

The Student Senate at Mound Westonka High School serves as a liaison between the school and the community. At the end of each school year, elections are held to fill six spots per grade. The Student Senate plans events to promote participation and school spirit.      

On Nov. 8, district residents will be asked to vote on three funding requests for Westonka Public Schools. An operating levy and two maintenance bonds will be on the ballot. Check Patch later this fall for more on the levy and bonding requests.
