Five from Wayzata High School Named National Merit Scholars

The students have been awarded corporate-sponsored scholarships in the first round of winners announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Five students at Wayzata High School are National Merit Scholars, according to an April 24, 2013 announcement from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

The students will receive corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships in the first round of National Merit scholar announcements.

The Wayzata High School students (with sponsoring corporations) are:

  • Abram D. Sanderson of Maple Grove (Chevron)
  • Kyle Y. Li of Maple Grove (General Mills)
  • Catherine J. Sun of Plymouth (Cargill)
  • Jenny Lai of Plymouth (Emerson Electric)
  • Madeleine G. North of Medina (LPL Financial)

Most corporate-sponsored scholarships provide annual stipends of $500–$10,000 per year, or a single payment of $2,500–$5,000.

Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Corporate sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for Finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage.
