TONIGHT: Congressman Paulsen Plans Listening Session in Mound

Event is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m.

The Great Minnesota Get Together

In between meetings at my office with constituents and tours of local small businesses, I managed to squeeze in a visit to the Minnesota State Fair. Besides sampling multitudes of food on a stick, the fair gives us all the opportunity to enjoy the things that make Minnesota great.

Visiting the Great Minnesota Get Together gives me the opportunity to meet with many folks and discuss the important issues affecting their lives. It’s clear that many remain concerned about jobs and making ends meet during these difficult economic times. There is also a pretty clear understanding that Washington cannot continue to spend more than it takes in. My priorities remain the same: pro-growth initiatives and sound fiscal policy with an end to the Washington accounting gimmicks and empty promises that threaten our country’s future.

While the House has already passed almost a dozen bills to help give employers a better environment to hire people, create jobs and turn this economy around, there’s a lot more work to be done. In the next few weeks, I will be pushing for a renewed effort to eliminate burdensome and unnecessary regulations that are strangling small businesses.

I want you to know that my collegues and I have heard your concerns loud and clear. So far this year, the House has passed more than ten bills focused on creating the jobs we need to turn this economy around—something we’ll continue to do in the coming weeks and months.

My Meeting With The President

As you may know, 35,000 Minnesotans are employed by 400 medical device companies. Unfortunately, burdensome, unpredictable, and inconsistent regulations from Washington are threatening this industry and the jobs they create.

I had a chance to meet privately with President Obama when he was in Minneapolis on Wednesday, and I pressed the point of how important these jobs are and asked him for his help to address this issue.

The President left the door open to discuss this further, which I will definitely follow up on.
