Find Out Who Has Declared their Candidacy for Excelsior City Council Slots

Excelsior will have a new mayor, and several local residents have filed for city council seats up for election this November.

The filing deadline to declare candicacy for local city council seats up for election this November passed at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In Excelsior, Mayor Nick Ruehl will not seek another term, but two candidates have filed to fill his chair.

Mark Gaylord and Steve Finch will vie for Excelsior's mayorship.

Two city council seats are also up for election this fall, and several candidates have filed paperwork declaring their candidacies.

A pair o f four-year terms on the Excelsior City Council will be contested by three local residents. Incumbents Mary Jo Fulkerson and Greg Miller have filed for re-election and will be opposed by Marianne Stebbins. Voters will be able to vote for two candidates, with the top-two vote recipients earning council seats.

Following the resignation of Wendy Berghorst, aspecial election will also take place this November to elect a new city council member to a two-year term. John Beattie and Gretchen Walstedt have filed to fill that seat.

All candidates have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, to withdraw their names from respective races.

The 2012 general election takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 6, and includes races for the following offices. Patch will have much more on each in the coming weeks.
