Downtown Wayzata Streets Scheduled for New Pavement this Month

Information provided by the Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce

The Met Council is nearing completion of the Phase 2 forcemain improvement project on both Grove Lane and Lake Street in Wayzata, between Broadway Avenue and Barry Avenue, and will be repaving their work area on the south side of the road in the coming weeks.

The Met Council is also responsible for repairing the area of the roadway damaged during construction. This constitutes about half of the existing roadway.

City staff has asked the Met Council's contractor for a cost estimate to mill and overlay the remaining portions of Lake Street, within their project limits, from Walker Avenue to just west of Barry Avenue. This would provide a completely resurfaced street.

This additional work, as well as the difficult weather conditions experienced this spring, will cause the work to be completed after the originally scheduled completion date of June 15.

Because the Met Council is paying for a significant portion of the paving, this additional paving will save the city several hundred thousand dollars. Also, paving of that stretch of Lake Street will be completed this year instead of its originally scheduled timeframe of 2014. The Wayzata City Council authorized this work to proceed at their meeting on June 4.

Work to be performed the remainder of this week and the week of June 10 includes; completion of the sidewalk, irrigation and street light installation, and milling (removal) of the existing pavement surface.  Paving of Lake Street is scheduled for June 17 and 18, weather permitting.

Construction will be completed prior to the Wayzata Art Experience.
