Campaign Finance Report: Connie Doepke, State Senate District 33

A look inside the campaign finance report for State Senate hopeful.

Local candidates running for state office have provided a first glimpse into their campaign war chests.

Candidates were required to file detailed reports of receipts and expenditures with Minnesota’s Campaign Finance Board by July 30 and itemize donors, lobbyist contributions and disbursements.

Local Republican Connie Doepke is running for the State Senate District 33 seat after serving one term in the State House. The seat is being vacated by retiring State Senator Gen Olson, and Doepke will face off against David Osmek in a primary scheduled for Aug. 14 to determine who advances to the November general election.

Doepke has raised almost exactly $20,000 since the beginning of 2012 and transferred just over $19,000 from her House Committee fund to her Senate campaign.

Doepke has received contributions ranging from $100 to $500 from a total of about 40 individuals. Notable donors include Excelsior Mayor Nick Ruehl ($200), Tonka Bay Marina owner Gabriel Jabbour ($500), Wayzata School Board Chairman Jay Hesby, Hubbard Broadcasting co-owner Virginia Hubbard ($250) and officers with several major financial institutions.

Itemized lobbyist contributions came from Minnesota Vikings spokesperson Lester Bagley ($250) and Maureen Shaver ($250).

She has accepted $1,000 in lobbyist contributions and $1,520 from political committee/funds.

Doepke’s campaign has spent just over $17,500 to date and had an ending cash balance of $22,983 as of July 23. The campaign has no loans receivable, no loans payable or unpaid campaign expenditures.

Some of the campaign’s largest line item expenditures include messaging/social media tracking ($2,000), lawn signs ($2,700), political consulting services ($2,500) and assorted printing and postage.
