Wayzata Man Charged with Possession of Heroin

Police say they found heroin hidden in David Andrew Mack-Bohnhoff's sock when he was arrested in Minneapolis last week.

A Wayzata man is facing felony drug charges after police say they found a loaded syringe in his car and heroin hidden in his sock.

David Andrew Mack-Bohnhoff, 28, is charged with fifth-degree drug possession, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, compiled by Minneapolis Police Officer Adrian Infante, police were called to a Cub Foods location on West Broadway in Minneapolis on March 28 after a pharmacy employee reported that a man had just purchased needles and was acting “very strange and nervous.”

When the man, identified as Mack-Bohnhoff, got back to his car, he opened the bag of needles and reached for something in his car, the employee told police.

Infante’s account notes that heroin use at that Cub Foods location has been “prevalent” lately, with heroin users ingesting drugs in the parking lot and the surrounding neighborhood.

Police stopped Mack-Bohnhoff’s car nearby, and as they approached the vehicle, they saw the driver reach toward the floorboards before raising his hands over his head, the complaint says.

Police saw a spoon and what appeared to be heroin lying on the driver’s side floorboard, and a loaded syringe on the passenger side floorboard. When police searched Mack-Bohnhoff, they found heroin hidden in his sock, according to Infante’s account.

The drugs were tested and were determined to be one-quarter gram of heroin.

The driver, Garrett Rickey Norby, 22, of Eden Prairie is also facing a felony drug charge in the incident. He remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $3,000 bond.

Mack-Bohnhoff is free on his promise to make all future court appearances. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled May 8 in Hennepin County District Court.
