Blotter: Police Investigating Case of Missing $38k Emerald

Below is a selection of notable incidents reported between Dec. 16 and Jan. 8. The information comes from the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department and is not intended to be a comprehensive log of activity.

January 7

An officer observed a person exit the patio door of a ground floor apartment in the 19100 block of Stratford Road in Minnetonka. He stood towards the apartment building in the classic male urination stance. The officer drove towards the location and saw several people in the parking lot. They were watching the male and a person in a vehicle had his jaw hanging open as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. A 19-year-old Shorewood man was arrested for disorderly conduct after telling the officer he went outside because the bathroom was dirty.

January 6

An Excelsior resident reported the loss of an emerald necklace. She last wore it at Hazellewood Grill in Shorewood and Haskell’s Bar in Excelsior. The necklace was insured for $38,000.

January 5

A vehicle was observed with an object hanging in its rearview mirror. An 18-year-old Excelsior man and 19-year-old Merrifield woman were arrested for possession of alcohol under age 21.

January 3

A 21-year-old Orono woman was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and cited for no proof of insurance on County Road 19 and Smithtown Road in Shorewood.

BP Gas in Excelsior reported that someone left without paying the $21.57 cost of gas.

January 1

A citizen flagged down an officer, pointed to a car on Water Street, and reported that a drunk person had stumbled out of Haskell’s Bar and into the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The 37-year-old Le Sueur woman was arrested for DWI. Test results are pending.

December 31

La Vida Massage in Shorewood reported an overnight burglary. The rear doors were locked with no signs of tampering. Although the front door was locked, pry marks were on the door near the lockset and strike plate. A list of stolen items and dollar amounts had not yet been received.

A 20-year-old Minnetonka man was arrested for entering Cellars Wine & Spirits in Shorewood for the purpose of purchasing alcohol underage.

December 27

A Shorewood resident reported that his estranged wife stole $327 from his checking account.

December 26

A 16-year-old Shorewood male was arrested on Excelsior Boulevard in Excelsior for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

A Greenwood resident reported that a FedEx delivered package had been stolen. The package contained American Girl items valued at $200.

Officers received a report of a male passed out in his running vehicle behind Water Street Pump in Excelsior. The 59-year-old male was arrested for DWI. Test results are pending.

December 25

A 20-year-old Chanhassen man was arrested for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a revoked license. The arrest occurred on Highway 7 and Old Market Road in Shorewood following violations for illegal passing and driving on the shoulder.

A 44-year-old St. Paul woman was arrested for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A dog owner in Shorewood was cited after a complaint about a barking dog.

December 22

Vehicles were impounded and issued citations for violation of Tow Away Zones on Second Street and the East and West Municipal Parking Lots.

An employee of Golden Living Center reported a $20 bill stolen from another employee’s purse and a bottle of perfume stolen from the office. The total loss was $55.

December 20

Holiday Gas Station on Highway 7 in Shorewood reported that someone left without paying the $30.91 cost of gas.

December 19

A 20-year-old Shorewood man was arrested for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia on County Road 19 and Pleasant Avenue in Tonka Bay.

December 18

A vehicle rolled on Highway 7 and Christmas Lake Road. The occupants were trapped inside the vehicle. A 22-year-old Wayzata man was arrested for DWI resulting in bodily harm. Test results are pending.

December 17

Citations were issued and vehicles impounded in Excelsior in violation of the “tow away” zones on Lake Street, Second Street, and the East and West Municipal Parking lots.

A 25-year-old Hopkins woman was arrested on outstanding warrants on Highway 7 and Vine Hill Road.
