Sheriff’s Office Investigating Orono Officer-Involved Shooting

A man with a handgun was shot, and police found another dead man who had been shot before officers arrived.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Friday night in Orono.

At 8:55 p.m., Orono police went to a home on the 1000 block of Heritage Road in response to an unknown trouble call, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release. After they arrived, officers encountered a man in the front yard who had a handgun and “subsequently shots were fired.”

The man with the handgun was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt.

Officers then entered the home and found a dead man who had been shot before police arrived.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the people who died.
