Search for Armed Long Lake Home Invaders Continues

Police are seeking the public's help in locating a red KIA Sorento with license plate 723-KVL.

Update (July 29, 10:42 a.m.): Wayzata police said Monday morning that a weekend home invasion in Long Lake was not a random crime and that initial investigation indicates the address was specifically targeted. Initial investigation leads us to believe the home invasion from Saturday was not a random act and that the home was targeted.

Original post: Three armed men who forced their way into a Long Lake home over the weekend remain at large as new details about the Saturday home invasion come into focus.

Police say John Davis, 46, and his wife, Karen Davis were bound with duct tape and beaten during a 90-minute ordeal that began around 2 p.m. Saturday and also included a gun discharging—possibly hitting one of the intruders. A blood trail was found leading away from the home.

"At least two of the three African American male suspects were armed with handguns and are considered dangerous," according to a Facebook post by the Wayzata Police Department.

Karen Davis was able to free herself and call police, according to the Star Tribune—setting off a massive search that involved law enforcement agencies from throughout the area. Two of the suspects are described as black males in their 40s and over six feet tall. A description on the third suspect was not immediately available, but police told the Star Tribune he is believed to be in his 30s.

A red 2014 Kia Sorento with Minnesota license 723-KVL belonging to the couple was used by the suspects to flee the scene. Police have not located the vehicle as of this posting.

Police confirmed to several media outlets that officers have been to the home on Glenmoor Avenue several times in the past several years—including for execution of a narcotics search warrant last fall.
