Search Continues for Drowning Victim Near Big Island

Sheriff says five young adults were on a boat near the southern end of Big Island when one jumped off and did not resurface.

Divers continue to search for a 20-year-old male near the southern end of Big Island.

The victim jumped off a friend's boat to go swimming around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, according to witnesses and reports, and did not resurface. Four young adults also on the 20-foot pleasure craft searched for their friend but were unable to locate him.

Sonar assets have been requested to aid in the search.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including water rescue units from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, Wayzata and Long Lake.
