Pursuit Ends With Arrest After Suspect Tries to Swim from Police

A traffic stop turned into a police pursuit in Orono Thursday morning.

A driver known to local police and described as a white male in his mid-20s fled west on County Road 15 before crashing near the Arcola Bridge. The vehicle was unoccupied when police reached it, and a search for the driver was launched.

Several police departments responded to the scene, and a water patrol unit was dispatched to assist.

The suspect was located running in the water about five minutes after the crash, and police say he swam out about 30 yards into Lake Minnetonka before surrendering just after 11:30 a.m.
