Orono Public Schools Experience "Lockdown with Warning" Friday Afternoon

Students and staff are safe and the lockdown was dismissed at 2:10 p.m.

All students and staff members in Orono Public Schools went on a “lockdown with warning” Friday afternoon after a staff member expressed concern about a "a suspicious individual in the high school stadium," according to a message sent to parents Friday.

The message to parents, provided by the district, stated as follows:

All students and staff members in Orono Public Schools are safe after a “lockdown with warning” was issued to all buildings.  Students will be dismissed as usual.

The warning was called about 1:50 p.m. when a staff member was concerned by a suspicious individual in the high school stadium.

The Orono Police Department responded and took appropriate action, and the lockdown was dismissed at 2:10 p.m.

Our students and staff practice lockdown drills throughout the year, and it proved to be an effective precaution in today’s incident.
