High-Speed Chase Through Orono Reaches 130 MPH

Monday night police pursuit through residential neighborhoods ended with an arrest.

A high-speed chase through Orono earlier this week reached speeds of more than 125 mph and ended with a 22-year-old man under arrest.

Police attempted to stop Zachary Moore, of Crystal, just after 10 p.m. Monday after allegedly observing him performing tricks on his Kawasaki motorcycle. Moore, according to court documents, sped away from officers at more than 100 mph on Shadywood Road.

A chase ensued, and police say Moore reached speeds as high as 130 mph in areas with a posted 35 mph speed limit.

Police briefly lost sight of Moore, but a resident on the 2400 block of Shoreline Drive signaled to officers that Moore had turned into a private driveway. Moore was found lying on his stomach in a patch of weeds and taken into custody.

Moore has been charged with one count of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, a felony. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday and remained in the Hennepin County Jail as of this posting on $40,000 bail.
