Deephaven P.D. Blotter: Foot Chase, Pot and DWI

Editor's note: the following are a selection of notable incidents responded to by the Deephaven Police Department during the month of March. Not intended to be a comprehensive log of activity.

March 30

A vehicle was stopped near the intersection of Vine Hill Road and Hwy. 7 at 8:30 p.m.,  and police detected a strong odor of alcohol and burnt marijuana during conversations with the driver. The 21-year-old male from Minnetonka failed a battery of field sobriety tests, including registering a .14 during administration of a breathalyzer. Police discovered a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, which was impounded. The driver was booked into Hennepin County Jail and released.

March 26

A resident on the 18900 block of Carsonwood Avenue reported around 2:30 p.m. that suspicious items were being shipped to his house. The resident discovered the items were ordered from Walmart using his American Express card. Police recommended contacting the American Express Fraud Department. Approximate value of items charged is estimated at $550.

March 20

A resident on the 3600 block of County Road 101 reported around 2 p.m. that he had two bicycle wheels to be sold on consignment at a business. The business moved, and he has not been able to contact them since. Approximate loss is estimated at $2,000.

March 11

Police on routine patrol stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Deephaven Avenue and Northome Boulevard just before 7:30 p.m. on a speeding infraction. A field sobriety test indicated a blood alcohol level of .13, and a 31-year-old male was arrested for second-degree DWI, speeding and failure to change a driver’s license address. The vehicle was impounded.

March 9

A 61-year-old woman from Excelsior was arrested around 1 a.m. for fourth-degree DWI following a traffic stop near the intersection of County Road 101 and Highland Avenue. The woman was tab charged for DWI and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

March 5

Police responding to a call of a car in the ditch near the intersection of Cottagewood Road and Minnetonka Boulevard found the driver smelling of alcohol. The driver fled the scene on foot. Assisted by a K-9 unit, officers searched the area and found the suspect hiding behind a house. The 28-year-old male from Plymouth was arrested, and blood alcohol tests indicated a .17. He was jailed on first-degree DWI charges.
