Blotter: Scrooge Targets Christmas Tree, Makes Off With Gifts

Below is a selection of notable incidents responded to by the Wayzata Police Department between Dec. 10 and Dec. 21. Not intended to be a comprehensive log of activity.

A laptop computer, accessories and other items were reportedly stolen Dec. 26 from a backpack at a location on the 600 block of Lake Street East. An employee of a local business told police they left the backpack behind as they left the building and upon returning found it had been burglarized. Loss is estimated at $1,900.

A 49-year-old female from St. Paul was arrested just before 1:30 p.m. on Christmas Day for fifth-degree domestic assault after an altercation with family members. The arrest occurred on the 100 block of Gleason Lake Road.

Gifts were reported stolen from underneath a Christmas tree on the 500 block of Park Street East. Police received the initial call from the residence just after 7 p.m. on Dec. 24, and the case remains under investigation. Estimated value of the gifts and a list of items missing is not currently available. Patch will have updates to this story as additional information is released.

A pair of 20-year-old males are in trouble after they were spotted by police running through Wayzata’s industrial park in the early morning hours of Dec. 24. One of the men is from Brooklyn Park, while the other is from Plymouth. Police caught up to the fleeing pair and arrested both for underage consumption of alcohol. One was also charged with fleeing a peace officer.

A 30-year-old Wayzata man was arrested just before 7 p.m. on Dec. 22 after he was involved in a minor property damage accident on the 1400 block of Wayzata Boulevard East. The man was cuffed and faces second-degree DWI charges after his blood alcohol level reportedly tested .26—more than three times the legal limit.

A woman was assaulted around 6 a.m. on Dec. 22 while walking to her vehicle in Long Lake.

Theft of a cell phone valued at $450 was reported from a residence on the 600 block of Ridgeview Drive. The report was received just before 4 p.m. on Dec. 21.
