and board chair of N.I.P., I was able to observe Dan’s strong work ethic and management skills.

At the core of his work was his commitment to the education of our youth. Through the mentor

study programs of N.I.P. which Dan initiated and oversaw, hundreds of at-risk youth were

encouraged not only to stay in school but were given the opportunity to excel in their school

work. His efforts were most commendable.

Beyond his work with youth at N.I.P., Dan is far from a newcomer to the education field. From

his days as a graduate teaching assistant to his terms as clinical professor at the University of

Minnesota to his 29 years as professor, vice president, and now president of the Adler Graduate

School, Dan has been committed to the education of others. At the core of Dan’s character is the

commitment to the education of others. This dedication to education will serve him well as a

member of the Wayzata School Board.

Dan also has the management skills necessary for board membership. He has run organizations

with multi-million dollar budgets. He is fiscally responsible. He has served on over a dozen

boards, and he knows the formulas necessary to build a consensus and to get things done.

Dan has been and remains a consummate volunteer. Whether through his work for United Way,

the Learning Disability Association, his church, or coaching youth sports, Dan is someone who

has given of himself in many ways to many folks. He is unselfish in his work for others and for

the “greater good” in our society.

Dan would bring all of this to the Wayzata School Board, and his work there, I am most

confident, would be nothing short of fabulous. I recommend him highly to you.

Very truly yours,

Leo G. Stern
