Kenneth 'Ken' Olson

Korean War veteran and small business owner was a familiar face around Wayzata.

Kenneth "Ken" Olson, a long time resident of Wayzata and dearly beloved by family and friends alike, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12 2011. He just celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends.

Ken was "One of the good guys!" "One of the most honorable gentlemen we know." Born July 28, 1931 he went to Henry High School, the U of M, was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and served in the military during the Korean War. Ken was a small business man who had a wholesale apparel company that spanned more than 55 years.

He was a second generation rag peddler, his father Palmer was in the apparel business as well. Preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Clara, and step-mother, Peggy.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends; wife, Dorothy (Pat) Olson who were married for just shy of 52 years; sons, John and wife Ann, Mark and wife Sandra, Bill and wife Doneta; grandchildren, Maggie, Jack, Chase, Amilya and Kendell; sister, Marlys Christoferrson, other loving relatives, the Ridgeview Drive Gang, the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eat Out) and countless others that he touched in many ways.

Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 115 West Wayzata Boulevard in Wayzata.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday at David Lee Funeral Home, 1220 East Wayzata Boulevard in Wayzata and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to the Special Olympics or to Camp Idihopi.
