Pinterest Becomes 3rd Largest Social Network in the U.S.

If you already haven’t heard about Pinterest, then you just may have been hiding under a rock. But seriously, let me clue you in on why Pinterest is a force to be reckoned with.

Why the ‘Buzz’?

If you already haven’t heard about Pinterest, then you just may have been hiding under a rock.  But seriously, let me clue you in on why Pinterest is a force to be reckoned with. Pinterest just became the third largest social network in the U.S.

This social network been growing by leaps and bounds in traffic and new users.  According to AppData, Pinterest has 10.4 million registered users and are growing exponentially.

The largest demographic of Pinterest users are women, ages 25-34 reports Ignite and the average Pinterest user spends 98 minutes per month on the site, compared to 2.5 hours on Tumblr, and seven hours on Facebook, see more.

That's a lot of 'Pinning!'

Pinterest users have also increased by more than 145 percent says Mashable since the first of the year.

Pinterest allows users to “pin” images and video to a virtual bulletin board they can create. They can be photos they took and uploaded, images found on other websites, videos they find online or videos they have created themselves.

A user then shares that pin with their friends, who can then like, comment or re-pin it to their boards. The primary purpose is to share your interests with friends through images and video. Women are sharing recipie finds, hairstyles, fashion, planning weddings, sharing their faith, craft ideas, places they love and  much more.

Women are creating the ‘buzz’ by liking, commented, connecting, following and re-pinning content. As the site hinges around our creative digital pinboards (just about anything goes) with our most beloved treasures, inspirations and great finds!  Well, who wouldn't want to share?

What makes the social network so popular for the eighty percent of women users? Women are discovering the pure joy of inspiring friends, sharing our latest treasures and connecting through pictures and video from across the web.

Currently Pinterest is currently by invitation only, so those looking to join need to request an invite or ask a friend who is already on it.  If you need an invite, e-mail Queen Bee Media and we would be glad will send you one.

Maybe I'm not the target audience or maybe I'm missing the point...but when I read the first paragraph, I was expecting that Pinterest was re-inventing the wheel...and maybe it is, but the description that you give doesn't really make it all that unlike big social networks 1 and 2. Again, maybe I'm just missing the point and maybe I'm not your target audience, but the one thing that I've learned in life is that rarely is it just one person who misses the point...just one person who raises the question.

Hi Eric and thanks for you feedback! Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard, it's a picture & video sharing platform. According to comScore, Pinterest is the fastest social media platform in history to surpass the ten million unique visitor mark. It is huge and growing bigger and will not be going away any time soon. Initially, Pinterest became popular with women living in the American Midwest and has now grown well beyond that demographic. It is here to stay and it will change the Internet’s landscape as it continues to route unbelievable amounts of traffic.
