TODAY: Usher in December at Wayzata Tree Lighting Ceremony

Wayzata High School Chamber Singers, the Blue Water Theater Company and Santa Claus will all be on hand to spread holiday cheer and entertain guests to the city.

Wayzata’s annual Tree Lighting Celebration takes place this year Nov. 30 and will feature horse-drawn carriage rides, choir performances, story readings and more to welcome in the holiday season.

Mayor Ken Willcox will bring holiday cheer to Lake Street when he flips the switch to light Wayzata’s official Christmas tree. An outdoor Christmas market will feature vendors selling seasonal and gift items.

Lake street retailers will be open until 9 p.m. and offering holiday specials throughout the day. The Muni will host an outdoor bar from 5 to 7 p.m., serving hot drinks such as coffee, cider, hot chocolate, mulled wine, Schnapps and more.

WHEN: Friday, Nov. 30 from noon to 7:30 p.m. The Tree Lighting Ceremony begins at 6 p.m.

12-5 p.m.: Christmas Market at Marquee Building, 600 Block Lake St. E.

4-9 p.m.: Free horse-drawn carriage rides at Marquee Building, 681 E. Lake St. and The Depot, 402 E. Lake St.

5:15-6 p.m.: Performance by the WayzataHigh School Chamber Singers at The Depot.

6 p.m.: Tree Lighting Ceremony with Mayor Willcox at The Depot. Christmas story readings by Blue Water Theatre Company. Santa Claus arrives at The Depot. Children are invited to share their wish lists and have their photos taken. S’mores and bonfire to follow the ceremony.
