'Wayzata Remembers' Ceremony Added to James J. Hill Days Celebration

Community festival will pause to remember the 9/11 attacks.

To the editor:

This September 10th-11th weekend we present Wayzata’s 37th annual James J. Hill Days. This is Wayzata’s largest community festival. It features fabulous events throughout the weekend. They all culminate with the spectacular Sunday afternoon parade.

This year’s theme, Stars and Stripes: The All-American Get Together, commemorates the 10th anniversary of the terrible 9/11 attacks. Those events changed this country in so many ways, but they also brought us together and reminded us of the core founding values we share as a nation.

To reflect that reality, immediately following the parade there will be ceremony entitled, “Wayzata Remembers.” It will be held at the end of the parade route in front of the Wayzata Muni on the corner of Lake Street and Superior Blvd. It will feature speakers, the U.S. Army band, and will spotlight our first responders and military veterans. I encourage all to join us for that memorial tribute and reflection.

So do take part in the ceremonies. But also enjoy all the other attractions that Wayzata will have to offer all weekend: shops, arts and crafts, eateries along Lake Street, cart races, dachshund races, etc. This is Wayzata’s grand celebration of the year. Don’t miss it. Take the advice of our slogan: “Experience Wayzata. The Gateway to Lake Minnetonka.” Our favorite railroad baron Mr. Hill will be expecting you.

Warm regards,

Ken Willcox
Mayor
City of Wayzata
