Video: Tour de Tonka Laps Lake Minnetonka

Over 2,500 cyclists toured Lake Minnetonka area last weekend.

Well before 7am on Saturday, Aug. 6th, over 2,500 bicyclists, volunteers and friends converged on Minnetonka High School to kick off the 2011 Tour de Tonka. With routes that ranged from 17 miles to 100 miles, the ride reached out far beyond the borders of Lake Minnetonka.

Corner guards guided the riders at each turn of the ride, musicians played at rest stops while volunteers provided water and snacks. Free pizza was an incentive for arrival at the finish line.

Additionally, a fleet of chase trucks operated all day long to assist riders with problems along the route. A very busy dispatch system operated out of the high school gym, and riders were impressed with how organized and well-run the entire day was.
