Tonight: Join the Freshwater Society in Celebrating Ice Out and Loon Arrivals

The Freshwater Society has called ice out on Lake Minnetonka for more than 40 years.

The inaugural Ice Out/Loon In Celebration hosted by the Freshwater Society takes place tonight at the Bayview Event Center in Excelsior.

Festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m.

Minnesota conservation expert Jim Gilbert and other featured guests - including Freshwater Society founder Dick Gray - will be on hand to discuss "loon logic," ice out and other seasonal events on Lake Minnetonka.

Minnesota Public Radio meteorologist Paul Huttner will serve as emcee for the evening.

A loon calling contest and the Bearded Men Improv Theatre Troupe will help keep guests entertained until the celebration’s planned 8:30 p.m. conclusion.

Food, beverages, bluegrass music, a raffle and silent auction are also planned.

Pre-registraion is requested for those wishing to attend.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the Freshwater Society's conservation efforts.
