Ten Things You May Not Know About Your iPhone

Share your favorite iPhone tips and tricks in the comments section of this post.

1. Double tap the "Home" button. A scrolling horizontal list with all of the phone's open applications is displayed. Too many open applications is a top cause of battery drain and can allow dormant applications to have access to your location. Press any application icon for a few seconds, and they all begin to shake. Pressing the red minus icon will close applications.

2. The volume "+" button on the side of an iPhone has multiple functions aside from audio amplification. It also acts as a shutter trigger in the camera app and as a silencer when pressed during incoming calls.

3. Privacy is a big concern for some iPhone users, and many applications require use of an owners' location in order to function properly. An arrow appears in the status bar when an app is using the phone's location. Location services can be managed in the phones "settings" application.

6. Hold the shift key and drag it to a letter.

7. When using the iPhones camera, tap an area on the screen to have the iris focus on that location.

8. Many phone plans bill text messages over 160 characters as multiple messages. To activate the phone's text messaging character counter, open the phone settings app and turn on the feature under the "messages" option.

9. You do not need to use "www" or ".com" while using Safari to navigate the Internet.

10. Touch the time display at the top of your phone inside a text message, navigating a web page or while reading an e-mail. Any location on the horizantal status bar works, but many use the time display as a defacto button.
