Take Note: Expect Delays Today as Hwy. 12 Road Construction Begins

State says project will restore pavement structure, improve ride quality and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Information provided by Minnesota's Department of Transportation.

Motorists will experience delays on both directions of Hwy. 12 between Boundary Avenue and just west of County Road 83/Halgren Road in Maple Plain as a project to resurface the roadway and make additional improvements begins today.

Temporary, non-rush hour lane closures and traffic shifts will occur during approximately the first month of the project as crews work on minor resurfacing and curb and gutter replacement at the west end of the project, and reconstruct the intersection of Hwy. 12 and Oak Street at the east end of the project.

Flaggers may also stop traffic for brief periods of time during this work.

From approximately mid-August through mid-September, both directions of Hwy. 12 will be resurfaced. The resurfacing work will occur at night between 7 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. A few overnight closures of Hwy. 12 will occur during the resurfacing.

Residents should also be aware in advance of additional overnight noise in the area during this work. Updates will be made in advance of the overnight full closures.

The "Highway 12 Better Roads Resurfacing Projec" includes resurfacing Hwy. 12 to preserve the lifespan of the roadway and create a smoother ride for motorists, adding left turn lanes west of County Road 83/Halgren Road to enhance safety and reconstructing the intersection of Highway 12/Oak Street to enhance motorist safety and upgrade accessibility for pedestrians.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.
