Snow Snarls Traffic from Lake Minnetonka to Minneapolis

Accumulation expected to be limited, but icy mix is crippling drive times.

indicates slow traffic throughout the west Metro due to a snowstorm moving through the state.

Multiple accidents have been reported on I-494, and traffic on arteries such as Hwy. 7, Hwy. 12 and Hwy. 101 are all experiencing delays.

One Patch Twitter follower messaged that Hwy. 5 between the Mound/Minnetrista area and Minnetonka was at a crawl this morning, taking nearly two hours to complete the trip.

"I should have used back roads," he wrote.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported 48 crashes in the Metro area between 5 a.m.  and 9:30 a.m., with six reported injured. Statewide, 96 crashes and 15 injuries were reported this morning.

No school closings, delays or early dismissals had been announced as of this post.

The wintery mix is expected to pass through the area by lunch, and accumulations are expected to only total about an inch.
