Severe Weather Expected to Pummel Lake Minnetonka Today

National Weather Service says strong storms will enter the region late this afternoon and last through the evening.

Severe weather is expected throughout the Lake Minneotnka area today. Bands of strong storms producing heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail up to an inch in diameter are expected to begin moving through the region late this afternoon.

In its Severe Weather Outlook issued Monday, the National Weather Service station in Chanhassan cautioned tornadoes are also possible late this afternoon and evening. Most of the severe weather is expected before 1 a.m. Wednesday, and up to a half inch of rain is possible.

The tornado threat will, according to the National Weather Service, be "confined mainly along and north of Interstate 94 while the overall severe weather threat will be greater along and west of Interstate 35."

Forecasts issued early Tuesday call for the strongest storms to begin after 7 p.m. and last into the early morning.
