People from all over the Twin Cities came together at the Bayview Event Center in Excelsior Thursday night for some food, wine and to raise money for the Intercongregation Communities Association (ICA) Food Shelf and Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN).
For $30, guests attending the 12th Annual Taste of the Lakes were able to sample food from over 11 local restaurants, sip fine wine provided by Southern Wine & Spirits and participate in a live and silent auction.
“We’re so excited to have our live auction presented by Fran Vascellaro from WCCO,” said Patti Sinykin from the ICA Food Shelf. “We haven’t had a big name like that at our event before.”
“I can’t get enough of this spicy chicken thing,” said Gina Hanger of Excelsior, as she sampled the Chipotle Chicken provided by the Bayview Event Center. “It’s so good. I think this is my third one.”
Participants also had the opportunity to bid on live and silent auction items, including Vikings vs. Packer tickets, a hotel stay, a collection of Target Missoni items and an iPod.
Sinykin says over $12,000 was raised at last year’s event, and over 400 people attended.
“We’re definitely expecting to surpass those numbers tonight,” said Sinykin.
The ICA Food Shelf is located in Minnetonka, and helps struggling families put food on the table. WeCAN provides emergency services for people, such as rent and mortgage help, utilities, gas and food cards, and assistance for people looking for a job.
