Long Lake Rowing Club Hosts Indoor Ergatta

Lake Minnetonka rowing club will also welcome the U.S. National Team's coach to town this week.

The Long Lake Rowing Club hosted their inaugural Winter Wolf Howl Ergatta over the weekend.

Juniors and master rowers from six clubs based throughout the Metro area participated, and the din from excited cheers rang out the door and down the street as athletes competed on indoor rowing machines, called ergo-meters.

Rowers competed against each other and the clock and before a crowd of more than 60 onlookers, and many personal records (PRs) were achcieved.

For Orono High School student Andy Deluca, it was his first competition. Deluca had a great time and says he is hungry for more.

Teams from Rochester, Hudson, WI, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Long Lake, the U of M and St. Thomas University all competed in the Winter Wolf Howl Ergatta.

This Wednesday evening the Long Lake Rowing Club is hosting a lecture by U.S. National Rowing Team coach Guenter Beutter at the Long Lake Rowing Club/Gear West winter training center.

The lecture is on athletic training according to heart-rate zones—the way all serious endurance athletes train—and is open to everyone.

Guenter is a world renown specialist in this field and will offer this free lecture at 7: 15 p.m. He will also be conducting lactic acid testing on Thursday. Lactic acid testing is the most accurate method for determining anaerobic threshold (AT) and therefrom the heart rate zone within which to train most efficiently and effectively.
