Local Scouts Race in Pinewood Derby

117 Orono cub scouts participated in the annual event.

Wayzata's Redeemer Lutheran Church looked more like a speedway as local scouts gathered for the annual Pinewood Derby Feb. 11.

Josh Mehaffey's car took first among fifth graders.  "I painted black on the bottom of my car so when it crossed the line, the sensor read it right away," Mehaffey explained.  "I also brushed off the wheels to keep them clean and fast."

117 cub scouts raced in the Derby, according to Derby Co-Chair Mike Jones.
