Hockey Day Organizers Move High School Games Indoors

Ice conditions will not be suitable for three consecutive varsity hockey games, organizers say.

Three high school hockey games originally scheduled to be played Jan. 21 on Lake Minnetonka as part of Hockey Day 2012 have been moved indoors. Event organizers said in a statement made Thursday afternoon that recent warm weather would not allow for ice that would "provide a safe, playable surface of the quality necessary for the three consecutive high school varsity games scheduled."

The three games will be played at their previously-scheduled times, and tickets will be available at the Pagel Activity Center in Minnetonka. Tickets already purchased will be honored, according to the Hockey Day Minnesota website.

The North American Pond Hockey Championship and the Jack Jablonski Junior Bronze Pond Hockey Tournament will be played on Excelsior Bay as scheduled—on the lake near the docks of Maynards and the Bay View Event Center.
