  • Minnehaha Creek Clean Up
  • When: Sunday, July 10, starting at 9 a.m.
  • Where: 2799 E 44th St, Minneapolis; at Lake Hiawatha, where it meets with Minnehaha Creek in Minneapolis (46th Street and 28th Avenue)
  • Why go: The goal at the fifth-annual Minnehaha Creek Clean-up is to collect 4,000 pounds of trash, which is double the amount that was hauled away during last year’s event. There is a free bagel breakfast for the first 250 volunteers and prizes for children and adults. RSVP is required.

  • Family Storytime - Westonka
  • When: Saturday, July 9, starting at 10:30 a.m.
  • Where: Hennepin County Library 2079 Commerce Blvd, Mound, MN 55364
  • Why go: Take your children who are older than 2 to the Westonka Library to share stories, music and movement.

Hopkins

  • 2011 Hopkins Arts Festival
  • When: Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where:, 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN 55343
  • Why go: This is part of the 77th Annual Raspberry Festival. See the work of numerous artists, enjoy excellent food and other activities that will be all along the historic Mainstreet.
  • Price: Free

  • When: Starting Saturday and continuing through July 17.
  • Where: , 101 16th Ave S., Hopkins, MN
  • Why go: On Saturday there will be a kickball tournament and a bowling event.

Southwest Minneapolis

  • Fulton Farmers Market
  • When: Saturday, July 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where:, 4901 Chowen Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55410
  • Why go: Seasonal produce, cheeses, coffee, breads, pastries, prepared foods and more.
  • Price: Free

St. Louis Park

  • Minnehaha Creek Canoe Trip
  • When: Saturday, July 9, starting at 10 a.m.
  • Where: 16501 Grays Bay Blvd, Wayzata, MN 55391 (Headwaters Park); meet at the Minnetonka Ice Arena parking lot (14600 Minnetonka Blvd.), and you will be transported to Headwaters Park.
  • Why go: The 4.5-mile option concludes in Minnetonka at County Road 73. The 8-mile option concludes at Creekside Park, 7305 Oxford St., in St. Louis Park. Equipment is provided; however participants are welcome to bring their own personal floatation devices.
  • Price: 4.5-mile trip: $40 per canoe, $20 second canoe; 8-mile trip: $70 per canoe, $40 second canoe.

  • Baby Storytime - Ridgedale
  • When: Saturday, July 9, starting at 10 a.m.
  • Where:, 12601 Ridgedale Dr, Minnetonka, MN 55305
  • When go: Take your baby (0-2 years) over to the Ridgedale Library for a little intellectual stimulation through books and music.
  • Price: Free.

 

  • Open Swim at the Minnetonka Aquatics Center
  • When: Sunday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: , 17000 Lake Street Ext, Minnetonka, MN 55345 (Aquatics Center)
  • Why go: Located at Minnetonka Middle School East, the center will have a qualified lifeguard on duty. Children who cannot swim must be accompanied by an adult. Lap swimmers are welcome. Shower and locker rooms are available. All you need is a suit, towel and lock for your locker.
  • Price: Please pay the lifeguard $3 per swimmer prior to getting into the pool.

 

Edina

  • When: Sunday, July 10, starting at 9 a.m.

  • First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band
  • When: Sunday, July 10, starting at 7 p.m.
  • Where: , 7499 France Ave S, Edina, MN 55435
  • Why go: Centennial Lakes Park is holding a series of free family entertainment events in the Hughes Pavilion. Movies in the Park will begin at Sunset.

Richfield

  • When: Saturday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Where:, 6335 Portland Ave, Richfield, MN 55423
  • Why go: It's a chance to see the work of local artists. There also will be family-friendly activities.

  • When: Sunday, July 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where:, 6501 Woodlake Dr, Richfield, MN 55423
  • Why go: This is the second-annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for Twin Cities Honor Flight. Park in the Market Plaza parking lot and enter through the door surrounded by balloons.  
  • Price: Free-will donation.

 

Golden Valley

  • Family Day and Celebrity Grill off at Cub
  • When: Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: 5301 36th Ave N, Crystal, MN 55422 
  • Why Go: Children can test their skills with games and parents can enter to win a family trip to a dude ranch. Media personalities Steve Marsh (Mpls. St. Paul Magazine), Dave Schwartz (sports reporter, Kare 11) and Wally the Beer Man will also be competing in the Stockman & Dakota Celebrity Grilling Showdown.
