Fake Instagram Incident 'Resolved Quickly' by Orono School District

The school district is encouraging any parent who has concerns to contact the principal or assistant principal at Orono Middle School.

Details of exactly what happened are unfocused, but parents say two Orono Middle School students were recently suspended for creating fake Instagram accounts containing negative comments about a classmate. 

Orono police confirm they investigated the incident, and said last week it remains an open case under investigation.

Citing data practice laws restricting the release of public information about juvenilles, a spokesman for the Orono School District would only say administrators promptly identified and solved the situation.

"The incident was resolved quickly and seemingly to the satisfaction of everyone directly involved," Gary Kubat, Director of Communications for Orono Public Schools, said.
