Excessive Heat Warning Issued for Lake Minnetonka

Infants and elderly are vulnerable to high temperatures.

The National Weather Service has issued an "excessive heat warning" for all of Hennepin County, including the communites surrounding Lake Minnetonka, luntil Wednesday morning.

Today’s temperatures are expected to reach as high as high as 100 degrees. Combine those high temperatures with high humidity, which is also expected, and officials warn that conditions will be “dangerously hot.”

As a result, the NWS is advising people to stay out of the sun, in an air-conditioned room if possible. The risk of heat-related stress and illness is greatly heightened at this time, they say. Locals are also advised to drink plenty of fluids and to check up on relatives and neighbors.

About 100 cases of heat stroke were reported across the Twin Cities Monday.  

Minneapolis’ average high for June 7 is 77 degrees; on this day last year, temperatures only reached 57 degrees.
