Down on the Farm: March News and Notes from Gale Woods

Minnetrista farm is operated by the Three Rivers Park District and offers a variety of events and learning opportunities throughout the year.

In spite of the snow outside your window, spring really is here. With the arrival of the first calf this week, the season has begun. The Gale Woods Farm Jersey dairy cow, Peel, delivered a healthy little bull calf on Monday night. Check out our Facebook page to see a video of his birth. Peel is adjusting to being milked twice a day and we are adjusting to the additional chores. Our first batch of incubator chicks have began hatching and lambs are expected to start arriving March 30. The cycle of life continues!

Spring into Farming
Friday, March 29; 10:00AM-3:00PM
Celebrate spring and new life on the farm! Meet farm animals and their babies. Get your hands dirty, taste a farm-fresh treat, make a wool craft, and play farm games. Farm-raised concessions available for an additional fee. Drop in anytime.

Farmyard Fun Day
Tuesday, April 2; 9:30 AM-2:30 PM
Learn about the wonders of the farm! Explore the barn to meet the farm animals and assist a Gale Woods farmer with chores. Stop in the classrooms for farm crafts, cooking and farm games. Activities are a mix of independent exploration and educator-led programming. Come for just an hour or for the whole day. Adults must accompany children; this is not a drop-off program. Programs break for lunch from 11:45 AM-12:30 PM.
