Divers Recover Body of Drowning Victim from Lake Minnetonka

Just over 24 hours after Kennedy Maddox disappeared under the water near Big Island, divers recovered his body Wednesday evening.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the body of a drowning victim from Lake Minnetonka.

The victim, a 20-year-old man from Minnetonka identified by friends and family as Kennedy Maddox, had been missing since 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26.

Witnesses reported that the victim had jumped off of a boat into the lake to swim. He began to struggle and never resurfaced. Four other people who were on the boat, were unable to locate him.

The group was on a 20-foot pleasure craft off the south end of Big Island at the time.

The Sheriff’s Office has been conducting an ongoing search since responding to the incident yesterday. Today, sonar equipment located the victim’s body in 67 feet of water, approximately one mile from Big Island. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team made the recovery at 6:20 p.m.

The Long Lake Fire Department assisted with the recovery.

WOW, Kennedy and I grew up together. Talked about everything, listened to music together, danced together, went to church together...and now he's gone. I am still in disbelief! I will always remember him, LOVE YOU MAN!

Sometimes unexplained drownings can be linked to sudden cardiac arrest - an arrhythmia found in athletes - swimming is a big trigger among adrenaline rushes. Visit stopsads.org or look up long qt syndrome. It is genetic- so good to know for relatives sake. My son has it-we were lucky to find out before tragedy struck.
